イギリスで最初に確認された感染は1月下旬のことでしたが、数は少なく、多くの人々はまだ脅威を感じていませんでした。
しかし、次第にニュースチャンネルでウイルスの拡がりが盛んに報道され、私たちは恐怖を感じ始めました。大陸ヨーロッパ、特にイタリアとスペインで大量の感染が記録されていました。
Hi, I'm Paula from NAR. I'll share the current situation of Covid19 in the UK. When the people of the Uk first heard about Covid19 it seemed so far away, like it would never affect our own lives. In late January, we were told of the first confirmed case in the UK, but numbers were small and many people still saw no threat. The news channels began to cover the widening spread of the virus and we began to feel afraid: large numbers of cases had been recorded in Europe, especially in Italy and Spain.
ボリス・ジョンソン首相が2020年3月16日からのロックダウンを命じたことは大きな衝撃でした。学校や企業は閉鎖されました。必要な買い物だけが許され、公共交通機関の利用を避けると同時に、運動のための外出は1日1回しか許されませんでした。 家族や友人に会うこともできず、人々は家にとどまらなければなりませんでした。結婚式は禁止され、教会は閉鎖され、葬儀は近親者のみで行われました。また、老人ホームは大きな被害を受け、新しい病院が急速に建設されていました。
Our Prime Minister ordered the Lockdown to begin 16 March 2020. This was a huge shock. Schools and businesses were closed. Only essential shopping was allowed, public transport was to be avoided and we were only allowed out once a day for exercise. Families and friends could not meet, people had to stay with others from their household. Weddings were banned, churches closed and funerals were held in private. Our care homes for the elderly were badly affected and new hospitals were being quickly built.
毎週木曜日の夜、人々の家の前に立ち、国民健康サービス（NHS）に感謝を伝えるため、手を叩きました。 チャールズ皇太子もボリス・ジョンソン首相も感染し、私たちの誰しもが感染する可能性があることを実感しました。
Every Thursday evening the country would stand outside their houses and clap hands for the National Health Service – letting the key workers know how grateful we are for them. The Queen’s son, Prince Charles caught the virus and our Prime Minister Boris Johnson became so ill that he was taken to hospital. We realised that the virus really could strike any one of us.
その後一旦、感染は減少し、喜ばしいことに封鎖措置は解除され、生活が通常に戻りつつあるように感じました。 しかし、学校が再開され、人々が外出するようになると、再び感染者数が急増し始めており、またもや規制の目が向けられ始めています。 早くワクチンが見つかって、Covid19のない世界で生きていけるように、みんなで願っています。
Cases decreased and thankfully the lockdown measures were lifted. It felt like life was returning to normal. However, as schools reopen, and people start to go out again, the number of cases are starting to rise sharply and we are beginning to see restrictions again. We all hope that a vaccine is found soon, so that we can all live in a world without Covid19
